Why Metenova’s ZG Mixer and Mounting Kit Are the Smartest Upgrade Path

Update: As of January 2026, Steridose has been purchased and the new owners will announce plans for the brand shortly. We will correct this blog to reflect any new information relating to the legacy of Steridose’s range as soon as they become publicly available.

Steridose has officially announced the global discontinuation of one of its most widely used magnetic mixers. In a statement on their website, Steridose confirmed:

“Effective June 30th 2025 – we will stop providing new mixer installation or impeller refurbishments of Steridose equipment globally. In line with good market practice we will continue our support and supply of standard spare parts and associated consumables for a further 5 years, ending June 30th 2030.”

With no further refurbishments and a final phase-out of all spares by 2030, this announcement marks a critical point for facilities running Steridose equipment. Planning a replacement strategy now can help avoid unplanned downtime, unavailable parts, or emergency retrofits later.

Metenova, whose team includes original engineers from Steridose, offers a direct and proven upgrade path. The mounting kit solution allows users to retain their existing welded-in tank plate and drive unit, replacing only the outer driving head, ceramic bearing, and mix head. No cutting, no welding, no revalidation. This keeps installation and validation costs low and production downtime to a minimum.

This solution doesn’t just apply to Steridose. While that brand represents a large global installed base dating back to the 1980s, Metenova’s mounting kits are compatible with several other legacy mixer models as well. This makes it an ideal path forward not only for facilities affected by Steridose’s withdrawal but for anyone looking to standardise or upgrade ageing systems with minimal disruption.

Another significant advantage of transitioning now is lifecycle assurance. As parts availability for Steridose declines in the lead-up to 2030, sourcing spares and service will become increasingly difficult. Upgrading early secures continued access to parts, technical support, and long-term service continuity. It also provides a clean break from dependence on an end-of-life technology.

To understand how this retrofit works in practice, the video below demonstrates the installation of the Metenova ZG mixer onto an existing Steridose drive head using the dedicated mounting kit.

At the heart of this retrofit is the Metenova ZG (Zero-G) Mixer, a magnetic mixer with a levitating, zero-contact impeller. This design eliminates friction and mechanical wear, delivering not just reduced maintenance, but also improved cleanability and process reliability. Fully CIP/SIP-compliant and built for aseptic environments, the ZG is a true next-generation replacement that outperforms legacy systems in every key area.
